What cookies are
Cookies are small pieces of information stored on your device when you use a website. Websites can also use similar browser storage, such as local or session storage.
We use these technologies only where they help us operate, secure or improve Barnes IP Training.
Essential cookies and storage
We use cookies and browser storage where they are needed to provide the website and learning service you request.
These may be used to:
- keep you signed in to your account;
- authenticate you and protect your account;
- maintain your session as you move through the service;
- remember choices needed for the service to work;
- protect the website and accounts from misuse; and
- maintain necessary learning-service and interface state.
These uses are necessary for the service to work and do not require your consent.
Some information lasts only for your current browser session. Other information may remain for longer where this is needed, for example to keep you signed in or maintain a security setting.
Cookies and storage we currently use
The LMS code currently uses the following first-party storage. We review this table when the platform or its providers change.
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
bipt_session | Keeps you securely signed in and authenticates requests to your account. | Essential first-party cookie | 12 hours, or removed sooner when you log out |
react-router-scroll-positions | Restores the relevant page position as you navigate through the service. | Essential session storage | Current browser-tab session |
react-router-manifest-version | Helps the page recover safely when its route version changes after a platform update. | Essential session storage | Current browser-tab session; normally removed once versions are synchronised |
Analytics
We do not currently use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
If we introduce analytics, we will explain what information is collected, who provides the analytics service and how long the information is kept.
Where the law requires consent, we will not set the relevant cookies or use the relevant browser storage unless you have agreed.
Where analytics fall within an exception that does not require consent, we will provide the information and controls required by law, including a simple way to object where required.
Third-party services
Some services used to operate Barnes IP Training may set or access information on your device where this is necessary to provide their part of the service. For example, Stripe may use storage on its hosted checkout when you choose card payment, FreeAgent may use storage on its own service when an authorised tutor connects the accounting integration, and Mailchimp may use storage on its confirmation page after you submit the newsletter form.
Storage used on a third party's own website is controlled by that provider and is covered by its own privacy and cookie information.
We do not permit third parties to use Barnes IP Training to set advertising cookies or track you across unrelated websites.
Managing cookies
You can use your browser settings to view, block or delete cookies and other stored information.
Blocking storage that is essential to Barnes IP Training may prevent parts of the website or learning service from working correctly, including signing in to your account.
Changes to this notice
We will update this notice if the cookies or similar technologies used by Barnes IP Training change.
