2026 PEB Syllabi and Examination Guidance Published

The PEB has published the updated 2026 syllabi, examination guidance and law-change notice for the UK qualifying examinations.

The key PEB documents for the 2026 examinations have now been updated. Candidates can now download the 2026 Foundation and Final Diploma syllabi, the updated guidance for FD1 to FD4 and the PEB's notice on changes in the law for this year's examinations.

There is an important point for FD4 candidates. The PEB says that assessment of patentability under section 1 and inventive step under section 3 of the Patents Act must be consistent with the Supreme Court's decision in Emotional Perception AI Ltd v Comptroller-General [2026] UKSC 3.

The PEB examinations are based on law and case law in force on 1 April 2026, although candidates will not be penalised for consistently applying later changes before the examination.

If you are preparing for the 2026 exams, this is the point at which I would stop using last year's syllabus and make sure all of your notes and revision materials match the current documents.
